Come and meet us, give it a try and see what Scottish Country Dancing is all about
We have classes to suit all abilities.
If you are new to SCD you are very welcome to come along at any time to observe a class or event.
Our Open Events are an ideal opportunity to come along and meet us.
New to Scottish Country Dancing
We have a beginners session every week which will introduce new dancers to the steps and basic formations and is also suitable for dancers who feel they require a refresher course.
Details: This session will alternate fortnightly between a small group class and the first half of the main Club Night. There will be an opportunity for all dancers to meet together each week during the break.
What do I need: Just soft shoes and a bottle of water. You don’t need a partner, special shoes or a kilt.
We can offer advice on the various styles of dancing shoes available
This is our general class where we have fun, enjoy dancing together and pass on that enjoyment to others. This class is suitable for all abilities.
Details: Once a fortnight the first half of the Club Night will accommodate beginners
The Class Aims are to:
Continue to improve steps, technique and formations in Scottish Country Dancing
Get to know the dances in the Branch's Core List
Learn dances from our own and local dance programmes
Build confidence and understanding cribs and following re-caps (with and without walk throughs).
We hope that by attending and enjoying our classes, all members will feel sufficiently confident to attend our social dances, our Day School and our Annual Ball, and will be inspired to attend Scottish dancing events held by other local clubs. The RSCDS Summer School held annually in St Andrews and Dancing Weekends held all over the UK and abroad are also attractive possibilities.

For more Experienced Dancers
Our Advanced Class is an additional class for more experienced dancers who have good mobility, strong technique, and a quick understanding of formation and patterns. Occasionally we are asked to provide a group to showcase Scottish Country Dancing. It is here that we pracitise for these events.
Details: The aims of the class are to dance familiar dances with improved technique and to have the opportunity to learn more complex dances
Paying for Classes
Your first class will be free.
The cost of classes is extremely reasonable. You can pay weekly as you attend classes, but many members prefer to pay for a term in advance (with a small saving over paying weekly).
